The Perfect Storm

Most everyone has heard about Nike's attempt to break the two hour barrier in the marathon. The run was set for May 5th at 10:30 p.m. Three men were set to run (Eliud Kipchoge, Zersenay Tadese and Lelisa Desisa). The men ran fabulously. Eliud Kipchoge ran 2:00:25. Not breaking the two hour barrier but a valiant effort.

This blog is addressing how people have criticized the racers. This run literally gave the runners every advantage they could possibly have. I understand that, however, leading up to the race there was way too much criticism toward the athletes. These men spend their lives training and maintaining the highest quality of life possible to give themselves the greatest chance to perform at their best. There are many sacrifices made to maintain fitness and resistance to injury. It is an overwhelming commitment to spend your life running. Bottom line, don't put others down when you're not willing or able to sacrifice the way they do.

If you have an issue with Nike using athletes to perform a race just for publicity, that's another argument.

Please leave comments. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
